Ultra-Thin Wireless Motion Sensor LED Light
Why we shortlisted it. Over 100,000 orders at a 4.90 marketplace rating. Stick-up motion lights solve a real problem in any house with a dark hallway, and needing no wiring is what makes them sell at this volume.
What it is
A slim battery or USB-rechargeable LED bar with a passive infrared motion sensor and usually a light sensor as well, so it only triggers in the dark. It mounts with adhesive tape or magnets – most come with a steel strip you stick to the wall so the light itself can be pulled off to recharge.
What to check before you buy
- Power source. Rechargeable is more convenient but means taking the unit down to charge. Replaceable AAA cells mean no downtime but ongoing cost. Neither is wrong; pick deliberately.
- Sensor range and angle. Typically around three metres in a fairly narrow cone. Mounting height changes everything – too high and it misses people, too low and the cat sets it off.
- Timeout duration. Some stay on for a fixed fifteen seconds, which is not long enough for a staircase.
- Colour temperature. Warm white for hallways and bedrooms, cool white for closets and workspaces.
Where to buy one in Brandon today
Home Depot at Corral Centre, Home Hardware Building Centre on 18th Street and RONA on Park Avenue all carry motion-sensor and under-cabinet lighting. Canadian Tire on 18th has a strong lighting aisle, Best Buy at Corral Centre carries the smart versions, and Princess Auto often has battery work lights at good prices. Walmart and Dollarama cover the basic stick-up lights.
Where these are genuinely useful here
The best placements in a Manitoba house are the ones you think of after the first winter: the top of a basement stairwell, the back porch where you come in with full hands, a garage entry, and a closet with no fixture. The one place to be careful is anywhere genuinely cold – battery capacity falls sharply below freezing, so an unheated garage or a detached shed will chew through cells far faster than the packaging suggests. For those spaces, a wired fixture or a rechargeable unit you can bring inside is the better answer.
